Great Opportunities to Serve

For those who would love to help with various Church projects but don’t feel that they have enough technical skills to help on some of the projects on the LDSTech website, the Church has started a beta program called Simply Serving and invites you to get involved. You can get involved by visiting http://serve.lds.org. On this site, you can volunteer on projects that deal with Church publications, multimedia, and translations. Many of the projects on this site can be done easily with minimal time, perfect for those who want to help but can’t find large chunks of time in their busy lives.

Huntington Beach 40-something Singles (mid30s-50) Int’l Picnic

June 16, 2009 in NON-Utah Activities/Events

Huntington Beach 40-something Singles (mid30s-50) Int’l Picnic: “Come join us for June’s Huntington Beach Stake’s’40-something’ group (ages mid30s-50) activity with an International Themed Picnic in the heart of Downtown Huntington Beach at historic Lake Park.

Some have asked who really shows up to these activities. Most women attending are in their mid30s-early 40s, and most guys attending are late30s-mid40s. So it’s a younger-ish crowd that we are all growing into this group. Some women who are 49 who attended our last activities said they felt a little out of place, but are looking forward to our new HB late40s/50s Group that is being formed in the next few months. But everyone within the age range is welcome to attend.

We ask everyone to bring your favorite ethnic dish and drink to share with the group (enough for 3 people). If you can’t cook or don’t want to bring a dish in the car all the way from LA, IE or SD, no worries… There are nearby grocery stores or take-out joints within 5 minutes of the park that you can buy a ready-made ethnic dish for the group.

To ensure everyone is not bringing the same potato salad or bag of chips, we are breaking down dishes by categories: American, Mexican, Asian, European, or some another exotic locale. Bring either a main dish (with meat), side dish or salad, and/or dessert (and drink). Awards will be handed out to the most creative and exotic dishes.

If you need to cook meat or heat up your dish, there will be a few hibachis or you can bring your own.

We still ask you to RSVP via email and tell us what dish (category) you are bringing to the group.

There will be a few picnic tables available, but due to the size of the group (we expect a larger crowd than our dinner groups of at least 80-100 people), so we ask you to bring your own chair, beach chair, and/or blanket.

This time we will have some organized ice breaker activities (with some optional speed dating), and park activities like frisbee, croquet, and other picnic classic games.

This will be an afternoon activity allowing you to join others afterwards to walk down and tour Downtown HB, the HB Street Fair, HB Pier, or attend another activity at night. As such, we ask you to respect other people’s time and NOT come fashionably late on Mormon Standard Time. Lunch will be served promptly at 1:30 pm, followed by mixer games and activities at 3:00 pm.

*Also we have a new policy at our HB Stake 40s Activities…We encourage everyone to truly to get each to know each other better as individuals, so we ask everyone NOT to have discussions about the Singles Scene, or how creepy a certain dance is, or how there are no quality men (or quality women), or how leaders don’t ‘get it’, etc, etc. at our activities. While there’s complete merit to talk about such issues at a correlation meeting or somewhere else, sometimes people can play it safe, get into a habit, and default back to talking about the scene in general, as opposed to getting to know each other better as individuals. So we appreciate your cooperation.**

So bring your friends, RSVP, and see you there!
